The story follows Heo Gyun (played by Xiumin), a brilliant food columnist from the Joseon Dynasty, who is exiled due to his progressive ideals. Just as assassins close in on him, he mysteriously time-slips 400 years into the future, landing in modern-day Seoul. Starving and disoriented, he is rescued by Bong Eun-sil (Chu So-jung), the sharp-tongued daughter of a struggling restaurant owner. Forced to adapt, Heo Gyun becomes the diner’s chef, blending ancient recipes with modern flavors. However, his past follows him—his nemesis, Lee Yi-cheom (Lee Sae-on), a ruthless nobleman from Joseon, has also arrived in the present, now a powerful businessman determined to destroy him. As Heo Gyun navigates the complexities of the 21st century, he uncovers secrets about his time travel, fights to protect the diner, and grows closer to Eun-sil, whose tough exterior hides a warm heart. The series balances humor, romance, and suspense, with themes of social justice and redemption. As Heo Gyun seeks his would-be killer, he also pursues his dream of a world without class barriers—a mission that transcends time 178. Main Cast Xiumin as Heo Gyun – A genius Joseon-era chef with a kind heart. Chu So-jung as Bong Eun-sil – A pragmatic but compassionate restaurant owner. Lee Sae-on as Lee Yi-cheom – The cunning antagonist from Joseon. Lee Soo-min as Mae-chang / Jung Mi-sol – A mysterious entertainer with dual roles. Oh Ji-ho as Detective Kang – A corrupt cop entangled in the conflict 147. Series Rating: 7.5/10 Heo’s Diner excels in its male lead’s performance and unique premise but suffers from uneven pacing and underdeveloped side plots. Review Heo’s Diner charms with its fish-out-of-water comedy and heartfelt moments. Xiumin shines as Heo Gyun, portraying his innocence and intelligence with sincerity. His chemistry with Chu So-jung’s Eun-sil is endearing, though her character’s naivety frustrates viewers—she blindly trusts rivals, undermining her modern savvy 25. The villain, Lee Yi-cheom, is a standout—charismatic yet detestable, embodying a sociopath’s menace. However, the plot drags in the middle, recycling conflicts without resolution until the rushed finale. Law enforcement is poorly portrayed, with a single incompetent cop handling all cases, breaking immersion 25. Despite flaws, the drama’s themes—karma, equality, and healing—resonate. The culinary backdrop adds flavor, and the Joseon-era flashbacks enrich the narrative. Fans of lighthearted rom-coms with historical twists will enjoy it, though tighter scripting could have elevated it further 457.
